COPE II (Connecting Older People Electronically)

A PCSP funded project aiming to reduce the fear of crime through an interactive sixteen week programme based on social media and online safety.

After the success of our previous COPE classes, Kilcooley Women’s Centre, in partnership with County Down Rural Community Network launched COPE II.

Funded by PCSP (Policing and Community Safety Partnership), COPE II aims to support older communities throughout the Ards and North Down Council Area to access social media platforms in order to reduce the fear of crime. In addition to classes in KWC, the project will also target rural areas, specifically Ballywalter and Portaferry.

Led by a tutor, participants will be given the skills to set up and access a number of different social media platforms in order to keep in contact with friends and family. Participants will also be directed to social media accounts and websites of key statutory bodies in order to gain up to date information about their local area. These will include; PSNI, Ards and North Down Borough Council and PCSP. By doing this, participants will feel less socially isolated and safer in their own communities.
