Little Green Fingers
The 'Little Green Fingers' is a project supported by Kilcooley Women's Centre in partnership with Kilcooley Primary School. The project uses therapeutic horticulture to help support children with additional needs, in particular, those with social, emotional and behavioual problems. With our onsite therapeutic horticulturalist, Dave Rainey, each year group attends one session per week, using the courtyard 'Secret Garden' and the polytunnel. Children are currently growing potatoes, strawberries, onions, garlic, peas, pumpkins, raspberries, rhubarb, tomatoes and grapes. The children also tend the wormery, keep their class designated 'vegetable trugs' tidy and take part in environmental educational workshops. Children of all ages take part, from pre-school to Primary 7. They are assisted by the team of Kilcooley Women's Centre's volunteers.
