Live Here Love Here (completed Feb16)
Kilcooley Women's Centre in partnership with Kilcooley Primary School secured funding from Live Here Love Here (Keep NI Tidy campaign) to deliver an interegenerational environmental project. The result was our CHIVE project
The CHIVE project was funded by Live Here Love Here to transform an existing sensory garden that had become difficult to manage and was preventing Kilcooley Primary School from doing outdoor activities with pupils and the wider community.
The funding enabled the group to establish planting areas, veg beds and establish an outdoor ‘year round’ classroom in the form of a polytunnel as well as enabling gardening events to take place involving the wider community – individuals will be able to take fresh fruit and vegetables home and learn more about environmental awareness and health.
This project has encouraged the children and the local community to promote a sense of responsibility and pride for their surroundings and create a culture of social caring. The group has engaged with 44 volunteers within the local community who are really enthusiastic and are looking forward to continuing with the project in the future.
