OCN NI Level 1 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills
What will I learn?
Students will be introduced to the concept and purpose of counselling, the practical skills used in a counselling situation and the ethical considerations that need to be taken. Students will develop their interpersonal skills and build on their own self-development.
The course will consist of 2 units which will cover the following areas
- Understanding the basic elements of counselling
- Recognising the benefits and limitations of counselling
- Understanding the skills and attributes of an effective counsellor
- Being able to apply skills used in counselling
Assessment will be based on a personal portfolio and practical demonstration / assignment. The grading for this qualification is a pass or fail.
This course is for anyone who would like an introduction to counselling skills. The course would be useful to anybody wanting to pursue further study to become a counsellor or help in pursuing other careers such as care assistant and support worker. Successful completion of this qualification allows students to progress on to Level 2.
Your tutor is an experienced tutor who has experience delivering training for a number of education providers across Northern Ireland. Through their extensive experience of teaching Counselling at various levels they have developed a supportive and inclusive learning environment welcoming to all abilities.
September 2021 (Every Thursday for 9 weeks)
There are no specific or formal entry requirements for this qualification however students must be at least 16 years old.
