OCN NI Level 3 in Working with Children and Young People with Special Needs
What will I learn?
Students will learn the skills and knowledge required to enable them to work effectively with children and young people with special needs.
- Understanding special needs
- Understanding factors which affect learning
- Understanding how to support individuals with special needs
- Understanding the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in the special needs area
- Understanding the principles and practice of advocacy
Students will need to attend 28 hours of teaching time covering the 5 specified topics above. Students will also undertake a practical assignment to enable students to apply their skills and knowledge in real life situations with children or young people with special needs. The total time needed to gain the qualification is 40 hours.
Assessment will be based on the student's personal portfolio of their written work throughout the course, coursework and evidence of their practical assignment through their log book and records of observation.
The grading for this qualification is a pass or fail.
This course is for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the area of working with children and young people with special needs or for those already working in the sector who would like further training in this area.
September 2020 (Every Thursday for 10 weeks)
Applicants do not require any previous experience of to have obtained any specific entry requirements however applicants should have an interest in working with children and young people with special educational requirements. Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
