One O'Clock Club - Seniors @ Kilcooley WC
The One O'Clock club is a voluntary peer support group which is organised by the senior members and participants of Kilcooely Women's Centre. The club is a friendship group for women 50+ who want to meet like minded ladies, for a number of persuits. These include gardening, arts and crafts, volunteering, networking and social activities.
Led by Gina Murray, who represents older women on the Board of Directors, the club traditionally meets on a Monday at One O'Clock. Where possible KWC secures project funding for the group, and assists in the promotion and activities. If interested in getting involved, leave your details at reception, or you can find Gina Murray on our Facebook page. Otherwise, pop in on a Monday (or any other day) for information and advice.
The club has a current lobbying campaign to secure funding to purchase or lease a minibus, to faciliate group outings and social interaction with our partner organisations across the Borough.
The club members have produced two fantastic decorative quilt wallhangings. The first quilt was themed around memories of Bangor and their favourite landmarks in the town. The second quilt was produced by the One O'Clock Club as part of our Good Relations project to mark the decade of commemoration on the Island of Ireland, including events contained in the centenary 1916 to 2016. The ladies also took part in a local Anglo Irish history class, to learn, discuss and create dialogue around events of the past century which still impact on our lives today.
As a good relations exchange, the ladies of Kilcooley embroideried a square for the quilt being produced by our Ardoyne Association partnership, and the Ardoyne Association recipricated and produced a square which was incorporated into the Kilcooley commemmoration quilt.Back
