Textile Design September 21

On completion of three 5 week programmes of textile art and design participants will gained an overview of surface embellishment through textile techniques and develop a basic understanding of design development through visual and taught examples, sketching of ideas, compiling mood boards with imagery, colour story and sampling.  Participants will have the opportunity to develop new skills on hand and machine embellishment techniques.

  • Unit 1- Textile art piece based on small units (luggage tags) to be displayed together and to illustrate the theme of journeys. 
  • Unit 2- Cushion design or textile art piece (students to decide)
  • Unit 3- Christmas tree skirt
  • Unit 4- Spring textile picture or fascinator head piece.


Informally assessed on an ongoing basis by course tutor through informal verbal feedback.

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in learning about Textile design and those with some experience who wish to develop their skills further. Participants do not have to achieved any level of skill previously to partake in this course.

Your tutor is Sharon Ferguson who has recently returned to NI after working in the Art and Design industry in Dublin and London for twenty years. Sharon is highly qualified having achieved a first class honours degree in Textile Design and a Master of Art degree in Textiles.
